Homework

Tonight DeShaun worked on his first homework assignment for the school year. It was about 6 pages of stuff......counting, connect the dots, tracing numbers and letters....etc. I helped him with it so I sure hope it's correct. :-)

My first SLR

I've had this camera for 7 years(?). I bought it from a friend I use to work with. I don't use it anymore but I can't seem to get rid of it. I've thought about putting it on ebay so many times but just couldn't do it. Since I started shooting digital I haven't found the need to shoot with it. I feel that if I get rid of it I will wish I still had it. You guys know how it is. Get rid of something and then BANG.....you could have used it or a friend needed to borrow it....."Sorry, I just got rid of it. Wish you would have asked me sooner." Anyway, I think I will run a roll or two through it and post some stuff to the blog in the future. I will have to think of a project to work on. I have a few ideas so stay tuned.

For Alison

When I first started this blog I told myself that I would not put my image on it. Notice no photo in my profile? Come to think of it there isn't much in my profile. I will have to fix that soon. Anyway, my daughter Alison asked me to put an image of myself on the blog and I couldn't say no. I took a few shots of myself and didn't like any of them. Then I got an idea to try something that I've seen a couple of photographers do...Mount a camera to the car and take a few pictures while driving down the road. As a photographer I try a lot of different things. Things that I think of myself and things that I see other photographers do that I think would be cool to try and this was one of them. Alison's request gave me the chance to do it.

Here is the first shot I took. This was just a test shot to make sure I had everything connected properly. I would hate to get on the road and find out that I had the Pocketwizards set to the wrong channels or the camera settings were wrong, although during the course of this little shoot I did stop the car a few times to change settings....not that they were "wrong" but to get the effect I wanted. In this shot, it looks a lot darker than it actually was. I had to underexpose the ambient so that the inside of the car would stand out.

I took over 100 shots while driving home. Here are 2 shots that I took while I was on the road. They turned out OK I guess. Wish I could have hit a spot on the way with tons of lights. What do you think?

Wish I could say that this went off without a hitch but......Let's just say that the hood of my car still closes, the camera still works and the Pocketwizard that was attached to the camera still works but I will have to send it in to get the foot fixed on it. Next time (and there will be a next time) I will not leave the safety cables and bungee cords at home.

Alison, email me when you check the blog. I love you. Talk to you later.

Rainbow

DeShaun has been enjoying school. He learned a new word, "recess". No naps at school mean earlier bed time at home...YEAH!!!!! We tried to catch a rainbow before clouds covered the sun but couldn't find a good spot to take a photo. This is what we got.

I'm still waiting to get my 300mm lens back from getting fixed. I will only miss 2 weeks of football games (I hope). The lens should work much better. Will post some images when I get it back. I will have to take it for a test drive at a HS football game.

First Day of School

DeShaun started kindergarten this morning. It didn't seem like he was all that excited about the first day of school.....just another day to him I guess. Of course Jen had to cry because her little boy is getting bigger.

I was able to get a few smiles out of him. I'm sure he will have plenty to tell me about his first day when I get home tonight from my shoot. That boy needs a haircut too :-)

What do you do when......

What do you do when you are at a shoot and both of your flashtubes from your lumedynes go bad? You use a Canon speedlight of course. Well that's exactly what I had to do today. When the first tube blew I packed it up and started using the other flashhead. Well then that one blew. I guess it is because of my powerpack. Anyway, I always have 3 speedlights in my camera bag but I don't always have the right cables to hook them up to the pocket wizards(it depends on the shoot that I will be doing). Today I had a cable in my camera bag....thank goodness. Being that the Canon flash isn't as powerful as the Lumedyne flashheads I had to bump the ISO up a few stops for some team photos. Anyway, I got through the shoot. Tomorrow I need to see what the problem is with the powerpack I was using when both my flashheads stopped working.

What do you do when you have to shoot a soccer game at 6:30PM and your 300mm lens is away getting repaired? You use a 70-200mm with a 2x teleconverter, get your shots really quick before the light fades and go home. And that's exactly what I did today. Sorry, I'm not up to posting anything tonight.

That was my work day in a nutshell.

Friday Night Football

The HS football season has officially started. Friday night I covered 2 games for the Clackamas Review.

Saturday we took DeShaun to the zoo. I don't know what it was but he was trying to set a world record time getting around the zoo. It was like "Around the zoo in 80 seconds". I left my camera home so no photos.

Sunday was a drive-in movie in Newberg. I wish we would have started going there at the beginning of the summer. We saw Barnyard and Talladega(sp?) Nights. DeShaun thought that was really cool. We will try to get there a few more times before they close for the season.
